About us
ABOUT US
At 1919, we create films that reflect Hawai'i's diverse community, with women at the center of our stories, both on screen and behind the camera. Led by women, our productions ensure that more than 50 percent of all above-the-line and below-the-line crew positions are filled by women.
WHY 1919
In 1919, a bill granting women in the Territory of Hawai’i the right to vote was brought to legislature. Suffragists around the territory gathered to lobby, creating the largest unified women’s movement of the time.
